No Ban on OFW Deployment to Korea

Labor Secretary Rosalinda Baldoz has clarified that there is no Overseas Filipino Worker deployment ban in Korea. Recruitment agencies may still process job requirements for the country.

However, there is a temporary suspension for OFWs going to North and South Korea because of the recent tension that is developing in the peninsula.

OFW Deployment will resume starting December 7 as soon as Special Envoy Roy Cimatu gives his go signal.

Incase the tension escalates, the government has prepared a 25 million pesos fund to evacuate Filipino citizens.

Christmas Attractions to See for OFWs and Family

It is a Filipino tradition that families spend their time together during the Christmas. So wherever they are, relatives working abroad go home to be with their family. If you’ve been away for so long you might be more familiar with your host country than our Philippines. Below are list of places you can visit during the holiday season.

Enchanted Kingdom

This theme park is located in Santa Rosa City, Laguna. It is a very good theme park perhaps comparable to theme park standards abroad. I especially like the rides: Wide River, Space Shuttle, and Rialto (the 4D Cinema). Their giant ferris wheel, Wheel of Fate, is also nice.

Star City

An amusement center in Pasay City. You can find many good rides here that the children will definitely enjoy. My favorite here are the horror themed rides.

Giant Lantern Festival

This is an annual Christmas Lantern Festival in San Fernando Pampanga. This year the festival will be held on December 18, 2010 at the Robinsons Starmills Mall. We all know that the Philippines makes the best Christmas Lantern’s in the world and the top lantern makers will be competing with each other. Expect to see colorful lanterns as big as 20 feet high and 20 feet wide. Definitely one of the must see events this Christmas.

Policarpio Street in Mandaluyong

During Christmas time the whole street transforms into a wonderland of lights. Every house is elaborately decorated. This is a nice place to visit and photograph.

Automated Christmas Dolls

This show was traditionally held in Cubao but has since move to Greenhills Shopping Center when the COD Department Store closed. The show features 30 animated figures that depict Christmas stories.

In recent years Pasig City Hall has started running a similar show.

These are the places and events we know at the moment. We know that more will be advertised as we begin to enter the holiday season.

You can turn right on Madison Street. Go straight ahead via Boni Avenue until you reach Barangka Drive. Turn right to Barangka Drive until you reach Talumpong Street. For Non-commuters coming from North EDSA

Just turn left on Libertad until you reach Talumpong Street.

For Commuters coming from South EDSA

For Commuters coming from North EDSA

Go down on Shaw Boulevard MRT Station. Take a tricylce at Malinaw Street going to Barangka Drive.

No Duties and Taxes on One Electronic Item for Christmas

The Bureau of Customs will not charge duties for one electronic item that OFWs will bring in the country in the spirit of Christmas.

According to Custom Commissioner Lito Alvarez he has told his collectors, examiners, and appraisers to be more considerate to our Balikbayans and vacationing Overseas Filipino Workers.

Normally there is an Ad Valorem tax imposed on electronic items that costs more than Php 10,000.

This is quite a nice Christmas present coming from the Bureau of Customs.

But sirs and madams, can we increase the number of tax free items to five?

Anyway, an early Merry Christmas from us. *Smiles*

Job Fair in La Trinidad Benguet

We will be participating in a Job Fair to be held at Gov. Palispis Hall, Provincial Capitol, La Trinidad, Benguet. This event is sponsored by PESO (Public Employment Service Office) Benguet.

The Job Fair will be held on the 24th and 25th from 8am to 5pm.

If you live in the area or perhaps you have friends there, we are looking forward to your visit.

We are currently looking for workers to be assigned to jobs in various parts of the Middle East, Asia, and Guam in the US.
